COSTA Portraits in the UK

May 19th 2011 | 0 COMMENTS

After shooting the world wide versions last year it was nice to be asked to shoot the UK versions of the COSTA portraits in January. You may have seen them in your local branch as the campaign was launched countrywide in April 2011.

All of the portraits were of actual Costa Baristas who had travelled from all over the country for the shoot. The idea is to feature local people near where they work. We spent 4 days talking coffee and the off shoot of it all is I am now a total coffee nerd boring anyone who will listen to me while I grind the beans and use an old fashioned Italian lever pump machine at home. I’m not sleeping to well either but we solved that problem by getting a treadmill for me to burn off the caffeine buzz and supply the national grid!

Their whole ‘buzz’ on this campaign is that they take a lot of pride in their coffee making and the in shop baristas really know their stuff. We were aiming to get natural portraits of real people looking like heroes. Hopefully some of their personalities come accross too. It was a lot of fun to shoot.

Art Direction by Kyle Van Blerk from Meteorite in London. A human dynamo himself. He never seems to actually NEED coffee.
